Our History

Phil Van Hoy and Craig Reutlinger formed the firm in 1989, knowing that with a small organization they could focus on practicing employment law. After working for the firm as a summer associate, Steve Dunn joined the firm full time after graduating from law school in 1998. In 2000, Bryan Adams joined the firm as a full partner. In June 2019, Steve Dunn left the practice of law to engage solely in mediation through Miles Mediation, and Grainger Pierce, who has practiced management-side employment law in Charlotte since 2000, joined the firm as a full partner. Phil Van Hoy passed away in January 2020.  Having represented employers in North and South Carolina for over 35 years, Bernard Tisdale joined the firm in April 2024 as a full partner. Craig Reutlinger retired the end of June 2024.

All of our attorneys focus on employment law, representing employers and executives for day-to-day guidance and every level of litigation. Our attorneys represent businesses in a wide range of business sectors, and Craig Reutlinger, Bernard Tisdale, and Grainger Pierce are also experienced in representing health care providers. Together, our attorneys have a breadth of experience and depth of knowledge equal to those of the large national employment law firms, and the employment practice groups in the largest full service law firms.
